Cena actually is very good at wrestling. He just doesn't do it often. His matches when he first came in were great. Even last year he had a good one with Cesaro.
The biggest pops Cesaro got were for his swing - the least believable thing he does. Him as US champ didn't matter, the battle royal thing didn't help him, and even having Heyman did nothing for him. I love the guy, but they did give him a pretty decent push with really no return.
People want to see all these great indie workers walk in the door and immediately start running things, but that's never how it's worked. Give them time. WWE does build their talent eventually. Rollins, Ziggler, Ambrose, Wyatt and Rusev are all hugely over right now in one way or another, and all are talented.
