Many would argue that Amber Ryan should never have made her 25th birthday.


However, the redhead has made it a staple of her career to prove the world wrong time and time again- her family life was always less than stable only having found out within the last year that the woman she grew up believing was her mother, the one who fell into the clutches of high-functioning alcoholism in the wake of marriage seperation was in fact her Aunt. With her real mother having passed when she was in infant in a bag snatch gone horribly wrong.

At age 10, Amber took up Muay Thai kickboxing, partially as a release but mostly because children are percpetive and cruel. Age 13, following years of custodial battles with CPS, she took her life into her own hands and disappeared- literally running away with the carnival. With quick hands, a blurred moral compass and willingness to learn- she found herself accepted into the misfit carnival lifestyle and it was there that her wrestling journey truly began.
Taking up yet another form of martial art 'panantukan' (aka dirty boxing) from a pair of 'freak' Filipino brothers , along with wrestling training under a former legend blackballed from the industry 'Grizzly Parker'- Amber melded everything together into her own raw edged version of offense.

Far from being clear cut and defined, Amber was on the road 8-10 months a year with the carnival after having her first match aged 15- under many assumed identities, masks and appearances word she started to make a name... From fairgrounds and fields to gymnasiums and warehouses, if they had an opportunity for her to fight- she would gladly take it if only simply to do so.
Many, including those she travelled alongside, quietly agreed that while she had potential- her overtly reckless style and early penchant for ultraviolence would lead to her never seeing a big time contract.

After all, she was too out there, too reckless, too violent, too small, too inexperienced... Too... Amber.

It was on this scene she earned the moniker 'Distorted Angel', defined by her somewhat innocent first impressions turned queen hell spawn once things turned towards business. Rings, cages, pits... no place seemed to down and dirty for the redhead to get herself mixed up and soon wrestling expanded into cage fights, bar brawls and any other place she might get to throw hands.
Living out of a duffel bag, a trait she's still known to occasion, she surprised all the naysayers when she signed her first professional contract just months before her 20th birthday in 2008.

Tragedy strikes as it often does with the young, and while the details remain sketchy to this day, at 24 years old... Amber Ryan died in a car crash.

Rumour had it that she wasn't alone in the car, a single vehicle rollover just outside of a rural city in unfavourable conditions, and that she was found alone and DOA at the scene- clinically dead for almost half an hour before she was somehow brought back from the brink. To this day the mystery still remains over what truly happened that night- however the lasting impact still seems to weigh heavily on the shoulders of the redhead years later.

Despite it all, Amber has managed to build a career founded upon high profile unmentionable violence and an ability to simply endure, some even labelling her as unkillable. To this day she's evolved and her style- while still striking based has developed a unique counter offensive edge from years of facing larger opponents.

With a career studded with blood and gold, the apathetic painted hurricane with her irrepressible lack of fucks to give is the ultimate snowball in hell that no one ever gave a chance to.

Pulsing, red lights rolls over the crowd like a rising tide to the opening growing distortion before the opening riffs of ‘Cry Sister’ by Royal Bliss overtake the arena.

Opening vocals kick into gear as the lights seem to pulsate and the tron image tears itself into a rough greyscale triptych with the middle section splattered in red- each one depicts hits and misses alike in heavy slow motion.

As the chorus roars and the triptych bleeds into one real time footage reel legacy of violence stained red and saturated black, the tell tale silhouette appears atop the ramp- cheers splintered with boos as the materialised form tends to draw a mixed reaction between those who judge action and those who understand that theres more than meets the eye.
Either way, the Painted Hurricane soaks in the reaction and energy.

As fans reach for acknowledgement and wave signs of support, some are met with a half-hearted hand touch while those that dare to scream their expletives and empty threats get a sly wink or a sarcastic kiss blown in their general direction.
Fluidly, Amber circles like a shark- beelining for whichever camera person is the slowest to get out of her way- lip syncing or giving a little bit of bonus commentary down the lens before a playful nudge sends them back on their way.

Slipping under the rope, Amber doesn’t call for fanfare or adulation. Simply stalks towards the closest turnbuckle, and leisurely perches herself atop of it. Hands clasped and elbows resting on knees in lazy anticipation, wearing the ever-present knowing smile across her otherwise apathetic features.
