INT. BAR - NIGHT

SPIKE HANNIGAN is sitting alone at the bar, drinking a beer.

SPIKE'S PHONE goes off. He answers it.

SPIKE
Hello?

It's an old friend of SPIKE'S, TERRY.

TERRY
Hey, man! How've you been?

SPIKE
A little bored, but I'm doin' alright.

TERRY
Whatcha been up to?

SPIKE
(taking a drink of beer)
Getting ready for a match.

SPIKE starts looking around the bar. He notices a young woman staring at him. He smiles, and then looks down at his beer.

TERRY
I didn't see you on TV last week.

SPIKE
I wasn't booked.

TERRY
Well that must've sucked.

SPIKE
It's alright now. I'm booked this week. Going up against Scully.

SPIKE looks back up. The young woman is still staring at him. She's telling something to a friend of hers. SPIKE looks back down.

TERRY
The name rings a bell...

SPIKE
He's a British guy who does the awesome dive off the top rope.

TERRY
Oh yeah! Now I know who you're talking about.

SPIKE
Yup. That should be exciting. Really lookin' forward to it.

SPIKE looks up one last time. The young woman is walking towards him.

SPIKE
Terry, I'm gonna call you back.

SPIKE hangs up the phone.

The young woman is now standing right next to him.

SPIKE
Hi there.

YOUNG WOMAN
Hey, um...do I know you? I feel like I've seen you somewhere before.

SPIKE
Possibly. I've been on TV before.

YOUNG WOMAN
OH MY GOD! ARE YOU A CELEBRITY?

SPIKE
(in a jocose manner)
Well, I guess you can say that I kind of a big deal.

YOUNG WOMAN
Are you some kind of athlete?

SPIKE
Yeah, as a matter of fact, I am.

YOUNG WOMAN
WOW! DO YOU PLAY FOOTBALL OR SOMETHING?

SPIKE
No...I'm a wrestler.

YOUNG WOMAN
Really?

SPIKE
Yeah.

YOUNG WOMAN
So were you on, like, WWE or something?

SPIKE
No...I work for the XWF. It's way better.

YOUNG WOMAN
Oh yeah! I've seen a couple of episodes! I'm trying to remember which one I saw you on.

SPIKE
I've been on...quite a few...

YOUNG WOMAN
Wait, I think I know who you are! You're Vinnie Lane, right?

SPIKE
(pause)
No...I'm not Vinnie Lane.

YOUNG WOMAN
Um...let me think...who are you again?

SPIKE
I'm Spike Hannigan.

YOUNG WOMAN
(pause)
Hmmm...name doesn't ring a bell...Wait...I remember you now! Yeah, you were in that battle royal thing a few weeks ago and got thrown out! Now I remember!

SPIKE
Yeah...that...I've been in other matches, too.

YOUNG WOMAN
Really? Against who?

SPIKE
(pause)
An old talk show host...

YOUNG WOMAN
Oh...nevermind...

The young woman walks away.
