Let It Go

The snow glows white on the mountain tonight
Not a footprint to be seen.
A kingdom of isolation,
and it looks like I'm the Queen
The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside
Couldn't keep it in;
Heaven knows I've tried
Don't let them in,
don't let them see
Be the good girl you always have to be
Conceal, don't feel,
don't let them know
Well now they know
Let it go, let it go
Can't hold it back anymore

Jenny Myst is singing the lyrics to the song from the movie Frozen. Her headphones on, she couldn’t see Chris’s annoyance.

Let it go, let it go
Turn away and slam the door
I don't care
what they're going to say
Let the storm rage on.
The cold never bothered me anyway
It's funny how some distance
Makes everything seem small
And the fears that once controlled me
Can't get to me at all
It's time to see what I can do
To test the limits and break through
No right,…

Chris puts his hand up, signaling her to stop. When she sees this, she removes an ear bud. “What’s up?” she said, “you wanna ask me something?”

Chris wanted with every fiber of his being to tell her to shut the ever loving fuck up and stick to using her mouth for a better purpose, but he didn’t. He actually had an inquisitive look on his face. Like he was in deep thought over something.

“Yes, honestly. I have to ask, what does that song mean to you?”

She shook her head, looking confused. “Ummm, it is a good song. I don’t know.”

Chris put his hands on his forehead, before sitting up in his hotel chair.

“It means something more to me, Jen. I never gave that song a time a day, quite frankly I think it sucks, but the words do mean something to me when I hear them. They mean something to me, this week anyway, because I am getting into the ring with two guys who just can’t seem to let shit go. Two men who can’t keep my name out of their mouths. Two guys who have already opened their mouths and cut promos, two a piece actually, while I was focused on kicking the shit out of some trailer park sewer rat.”

Jen looked at him, before taking a sip of her wine. “So, where are you going with this exactly?”

The hotel room was nice, for an airport hotel, but Chris still didn’t have a problem putting his feet up on a desk. He was about to embark on an international flight to the furthest possible place away on Earth, he could enjoy himself for a few hours.

“Where I am going with this, sugar tits, is that Thomas Nixon and Radical Reno need to just let it go. They need to understand the fact that they will never be on my level. Reno, hell, I proved that to him already, but he is like herpes---he just keeps coming back. And Nixon, well Nixon got in on the Reno ass kicking party and now suddenly I am involved? He needs to stick to his cut-rate title and his weekly defenses and let the big boy’s play. This is no game for the meek. Thomas Nixon is a champion here, sure, but he isn’t the icon. He isn’t the face of this company, like me, and the fact that he has a newly found burst of testicular fortitude because he took Gabe Reno to the wood shed doesn’t mean he has any business spewing my name in any capacity.”

She nodded. He knew she was just agreeing with him. To her it was a silly song she could strain her vocal chords to. To Chris, it meant so, so much more………..

Continued……

March, 2000

There was a kid in their middle school named Jason Corrigan. He was just the worst kind of person. Stuck up, arrogant, selfish, loud. He was a rich kid who thought his shit didn’t stink because his dad was the Mayor. He was evil, through and through. Chris normally would have just ignored this kid, but there was one problem: Jason also liked Nicole. He liked her a lot. And Nicole, he thought, liked him. Chris was technically with Nicole, as much as a middle-schooler could be. They had home room together, a couple classes together…...Nicole was his first kiss. But Jason’s family and her family knew each other. They lived in the same neighborhood. They were from the social classes that are “supposed” to be together. Country clubs, yachts, hell they lived in Florida and were on the ski team! THE GODDAMN SKI TEAM AND IT WAS 80 DEGREES! They would fly to Colorado in the winter, ski, then come home. IN A DAY. Holy bloody fucking hell.

Regardless, Jason was going to end up being an arch nemesis of Chris for years to come. And it all started with that fateful day………………

Chris was obsessed with Nicole Dagastino. She was his everything, she was what got him through his day. Just being able to walk home holding hands with her was the thing he looked forward to the most. Forget football. Forget grades. Forget popularity. Nicole was his world. Ever since he had met her that day on the bus in 1996. BUT, Jason Corrigan also felt that way about her, or so he claimed. Chris knew he didn’t, and he was going to prove it.

Chris would write little letters to Nicole, especially on days when she would have a bad day. He would sit, literally all through class, and doodle on paper and write out letters and put them in her locker so that she would find them, read them, and hopefully, if his wishes and dreams came true, smile. On this particular day he was writing her a letter to express his love to her. This was raw love, the kind only an 8th grader can have. The kind of love you have when you don’t really know what love is. You just think you do. He was scribbling out a note in a desperate attempt to show her that Jason wasn’t the one for her and that he didn’t really love her. It was a very private conversation he was putting on paper. Something that he wanted only him and her to know about.

What he didn’t know was that Jason has made up some big elaborate story about his locker needing to be changed because he was getting bullied…..just so his locker could be next to Nicole’s. This gave him an excuse to talk to her everyday. It was a shifty move. It was smart. Hell, Chris probably would have done the same if he wasn’t so naive.

So Chris had left his classroom, claiming he needed to go to the bathroom. He planed to put the note in her locker while he was out. He had it in his hand, folded perfectly with a drawn on heart. He had even stolen a red colored pencil from the teachers desk to draw the heart. He was almost to Nicole’s locker when he noticed the principle happened to be in the hallway, coming back, seemingly, from the cafeteria. He was wearing his famous blue suit. Always a damn suit. Its 85 degrees outside, dude, lighten up.

He was so nervous about the principle, who was in his direct line of site (and Chris in his), and getting in trouble. He had plans with Nicole today after school. The last thing he needed was detention. So he looked at the first number in her locker combo, 4, and stuck his hand out. He had done this 100 times before, he had it down to a science. Or so, he thought.

When he returned to class he had a look on his face of smug satisfaction. When they went to get food after school, she would know the deal, and she would cut Jason out of her life for good.

1 HOUR LATER:

Chris was packing up his backpack, getting ready to walk to Nicole’s locker to get her for the walk home. What he saw when he got near was a crowd of people huddled around where Nicole’s locker is supposed to be. He saw someone in the middle, putting on a show. The person was very animated. His school was nothing new to theatrics, but apparently whoever this was and whatever they were saying was highly, highly entertaining.

Getting a little closer to the action, Chris’s worst fears were confirmed. It was Jason Corrigan, and he was reading something. Nicole was standing there, red faced, looking like she had seen a ghost. That is when his heart sank. He knew, right then, that he had put the note in Jason Corrigan’s locker by accident.

He was reading it off like a theater scrip and a broad-way play all in one. He was into it. Chris heard as his words, his private words that were meant for Nicole only to hear. His world was coming to a screeching halt.

“The wind all stops when you are with me….when we hold hands I could melt in place…..” The words are his own, he recognizes them. He wrote them.

“He isn’t good for you. Let me show you what I can be, and what he isn’t. Your beautiful hair, your smile….I love it all.”

Nicole’s face was beat red. Chris’s heart sank, he felt so bad for her. But it was at moment that all the rage, all the anger, all the craziness, that he would feel in later years would come to the forefront. It was at that moment that he became who people know him as today.

Before he could blink, he was on top of Jason. He slammed his face 3 or 4 times into the locker, bloodying it.

“STOP! STOP IT!” Nicole yelled, trying to pull his arm off. Chris was a man possessed. Grabbing Jason again he grabbed him and he threw him down the hall, causing him to roll on the floor. Moving again with lightening speed, he was on him again. Over and over and over the punches rained down. He heard Nicole screaming “Chris! Chris! Let it go! Let it go! It is over and done with!” But he didn’t care. Jason needed to learn a lesson. He cocked his arm back again when it was grabbing by 3. School security was on him. These off-duty officers tackled him and before he knew it he was sitting in the principles office, in handcuffs, with a group of men in suits around him.

“All he did was read a letter, Chris. He was just being immature. Is he in the right, no, but sometimes you just need to let things go.”

There was that phrase again. Let it go.

“Just let it go. Now, he wants to press charges. You got yourself in quite a mess, young man.”

If only he had truly known the mess he was in……….

All because he couldn’t be the bigger man, and just let it go….

"Gabe Reno and Thomas Nixon......how did I get so lucky? Now I get to take out a loud mouthed-underachiever and a paper champion in the same night. And my birthday isn't even until August. So now I have to travel to the furthest continent away on planet earth, fight on som stupid cruise ship, just to prove my point. I am the greatest professional wrestler alive today. I proved it in the chamber and I have proved it since. Every match thrown at me, I have dominated. It has taken me a bit to get to this promo because so much has been going on recently. Both of these men were more eager to spew out nonsense than a reality TV show on the E! network. So now that I have had time to sit down and process all the hot garbage these two have gone back and forth with, I can finally come up with a cogent and intelligent response.

Lets begin with Mr. Nixon. Thomas wants a reason as to why I did what I did to Jervis Cottonbelly? Well, that answer seems obvious to me, but I will break it down for you in case you really aren't sure. Thomas, I do what I want when I want to who I want. When I fist stepped foot in this company, I said I was going to turn it on its ear. I said I was going to create chaos and unpredictability. I said I was going to do some things that would change the entire dynamic of this company. But, more than that even, I said I was going to put asses in seats and boost the ratings. Look at Wildcard Weekend Night 1. Tell me one match on there that was worth watching? Tell me one match on that card that anyone cared about? Well, when Jervis and his clumsy ass stepped on Jenny's foot, I knew my target. I knew I was going to be in Vegas that night, so why not make that night one to remember? Why not make that night anything but a warm up? I KNEW I was going to win the belt the next night. I could feel it. But it just isn't in my nature to sit back and let things happen. I go out and I create. Jervis was everyone's favorite.....so I put Jervis on the shelf. Was he going to stop me? No. Are you? No. So if you want a simple answer as to why I did what I did.....all I really can say is that I did it because I can.

You need to let it go.

And Gabe Reno. How many times to I have to put your monkey ass in its place before you learn? You must be more dense than I thought. You just cant seem to let things go. You can't see to let what happens happen. You have to stay in my business, continue to be a burden. As you proved on the last Warfare, you seem to think for some reason you are in the Universal Title picture. You haven't won a match in two months. What makes you think you are even worthy of being the Heavymetalweight Champ? You know Reno.....I think you know the situation you are in. I think you know that nobody on this roster respects you. They sure don't like you. But there is a difference between like and respect. I can't name you one member of this roster that LIKES me either....but I gurantee you that if you walked around that locker room you wouldn't find a single one that doesn't RESPECT me. Why? Because I do what I say I am going to do. I never back down from a fight, and I am that damn good. You see you are all talk, all dicktrap flapping, and you haven't once backed it up. You won Dr. D'Ville's SHOVE IT, but haven't done a single thing of merit since. You are pathetic. You are more pathetic than Jervis even was. I mean, I could handle the losses and the cold streak if you weren't such a whiny bitch. Every single show its "I got screwed" this and "I deserve another shot" that. No, you don't. In this business you earn what you get and quite frankly Reno you haven't earned a bucket of arena popcorn. The fact that you are in the main event is solely because you step into the ring with two champions, otherwise you probably wouldn't have even made the card.

Let it go.

You aren't on my level, and that statement goes for both of you. At least Nixon is a man....Nixon has talked the talk and to this point he has backed it up. But Nixon hasn't been in a ring with someone of my caliber his entire career. He hasn't been in the ring with someone like me, and he doesn't know what he is in for. Reno, you can tell him about the buzzsaw he is walking into. You can tell him about the storm he is preparing to weather. You don't think I am aware of the two men I am stepping into the ring with? I know you two hate each others guts. I know you two have had your battles, both verbal and non, in the last few weeks. This isn't a matter of you two versus me. This is a matter of you two settling a score with me as a wildcard.

What an ironic twist eh?

But that is the kind of story you get to tell when you are sitting on the top and looking down. I get to be in the main event and be a part of a story line that is developing beautifully. You two have a match, and I come in and clean up the scraps. Well NO. I refuse to sit back and watch. You see, I have to prove I am a fighting champion as well. I have to prove I am the man that everyone on this roster looks up to. I have to take both of you to the woodshed and come out with a smile. I have to show the world that not only do I hold the best title, but I am the best champion. So, when you least expect it, I will be there. Just when you have to look over your shoulder for one another, I will there when you turn around. Then, I will cause you pain. I will cause you suffering, and I will be the one standing in the ring with my title held high and the hottest woman in the business on my arm when the show goes off the air........

Now....what to do about this title situation. Well, Reno, you know the deal, if you lose you will NEVER get a shot at my belt as long as I am champion. If you are able to climb this mountain, however, and overcome this massive obstacle, I may consider a title shot. As for Trax, Gilly and Bourbon.......they can sort that shit out on their own. Bourbon has a shot at Dolly's vacated Hart Title, so if he wins he is out of the picture. Gilly brought nothing but embarrassment to the belt he once held. He held it for less than three weeks. His first title defense was a loss. Hell, its better than Scully, who is a complete joke, but he has to be delusional to think he deserves a shot this quick. No, sir. Trax may have the best chance, but even he has his hands full this week. So, I am left facing two scrubs and STILL not defending my title. That is fine with me, just dandy. I will make these two ass hats look stupid. I will drag them through shit and come out smelling like roses.

Yes Nixon, I speared your little buddy Jervis half to hell.

Yes Reno, I have made you my bitch at every opportunity.

Both of you need to focus on the task at hand and stop living in the past.

Both of you just need to let it go.

Let it go......

.............Let. It. Go."
