March Madness.

It’s a turbulent time of year for many. College kids fighting for a chance at glory, to bring meaning to the weeks, months, and years of hard work they’ve put in. Smaller schools strive to just be noticed. Fifteen minutes of fame in the spotlight can reap many a benefit in the years to come.

Not to mention, the unfathomable amount of traffic coming through the Las Vegas casinos. Mountains of cash are accumulated from the patrons wagering their hard earned money on the skill sets of teenagers. Some are honest men; they have a family at home, decent careers, a moderate moral compass. Others meanwhile, are nothing more than degenerate addicts looking for a fix.

Someone who can find a parallel to all of the above is Devin Black. Admittedly, never the type to go the college route, a below average student at best, Black was never interested in scholastic achievements. He spent more days suspended or skipping class than the amount of days attended. Fighting has always been somewhat of a muse; something that has nearly ruined his future, but it’s also the medium that has provided him with one.

Being a Las Vegas resident, he has seen his fair share of gambling action. He looks at these honest, good hearted casino patrons and sees something in them that used to coarse through his veins as well; bright eyed optimism, looking for a chance to make a quick buck.

[FADE IN]

DEVIN BLACK:
“You gotta be shittin’ me. I’m wrestling a chick?”

Apparently Devin doesn’t seem to think bright eyed optimism will be needed on the 31st.

DEVIN BLACK:
“I’d never hit a woman, but I’ve never been opposed to suplexing a bitch.”

We find Devin Black in what appears to be a small studio apartment fixed up with all of the essentials. There’s a small nook in the corner with a refrigerator that looks to be from the late 80’s. The 32” flat screen mounted on the cracked wall seems slightly out of place with the run down, minimalistic décor. The beige sofa in the middle of the studio looks to have seen better days. That’s where we find Black sitting on the top of the back cushions, feet planted in the ripped, stained suede seats, seemingly looking over XWF tape.

DEVIN BLACK:
“Someone in the office fucked up…big time. I’m not new to this scene, man. There’s tape out there that would illustrate just how big of a mistake this truly is.”

Devin brushes his long black mane away from his face, pulling a Marlboro tucked from behind his ear. He rolls it back and forth in the grasp of his thumb and index finger.

DEVIN BLACK:
“You only get one shot at a first impression. This saying goes tenfold when a woman gets involved. “

Devin chuckles as he lights up his cigarette, inhaling deeply , and exhaling slow and steady.

DEVIN BLACK:
“Hell, I’ve fucked up my fair share of opportunities with women in the past. I’ve told one too many bad jokes, made insensitive comments, even shot my load a few minutes early. You know what that taught me? Not. To give. A Fuck. It got me where I am today, sitting in this stinking apartment, but it’s also what’s going to help me get out of it. You see, the bell rings, and this sanctioned match starts, I will NOT let up. Christine Nash will feel EVERY ounce of pain that I choose to unleash.”

Black jumps off of his sofa, walks over to his television, and presses the power button just as we caught a glimpse of Christine Nash bending over and whipping her hair during her entrance.

With the dim apartment lighting illuminating the underbelly of his face, Devin stares intently into the camera.

DEVIN BLACK:
“Not every first impression I’ve had with women has gone sour. A fair share of them has actually ended in the bedroom with me breaking their god damned backs. I have a feeling that the kind of back breaking I give Ms. Nash on March 31st will leave her walking funny the next morning…”

Devin chuckles slightly, pausing before snapping back in a serious tone.

DEVIN BLACK:
“…Or not at all.”

March Madness’ most maniacal moment, may come on the very last day of March. At a wrestling event called Madness. Seems fitting.

The camera pans backwards, as Devin Black leaves us with a Las Vegas sentiment.

DEVIN BLACK:
“Always bet on Black.”
